Doctor Who’s most iconic intergalactic enemy has received a new makeover before the show’s annual New Year’s Eve special.

A brief teaser shared with Twitter followers on Monday evening showed the dreaded Daleks with bodywork and pulsed neon blue lights.

A handful of ominous tweets also suggested they will re-bid for world domination, with a reading saying “Your future is in safe hands,” while another instructed fans to “prepare for maximum extermination.”

The new episode, titled Revolution Of The Daleks, will air on New Year’s Day, with Jodie Whittaker resuming her thirteenth doctor role.

It will be the last in a series of appearances for the evil cyborg race, after the first Dr. William Hartnell found it in 1963.

Reflecting on the new episode, John Barrowman, who returns as Captain Jack Harkness, told Radio Times, “There will be some tears shed, there will be some broken hearts.”

Addressing the inevitable pressure of the role in June, he said, “What I would say to the next person is that the pressure on the show’s story is made up of your own head, on the set of all the crew you have passed on to the show, they are a little excited and with you they bring something new, because that is the beauty of this role.
