Kermit the Frog on Monday was named conductor of The Rose Parade’s New Year’s Eve celebration, presented by Honda.

The popular muppet will headline the virtual performance that will feature high school and college seniors. The world’s most famous amphibian, a star of international film and television, is no stranger to the Rose Parade. In 1996 Kermit came down Colorado Boulevard as Grand Marshal.

The segment will feature hundreds of students playing bands from around the world who will gather for a special virtual performance of “Everything’s Coming up Roses”.

From Pennsylvania and San Diego to Sweden and Panama, these students will be part of history as the first virtual performance of the New Year celebration.

This year’s Rose Parade parade was canceled in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The Torneig de Roses association has partnered with six stations to broadcast a two-hour entertainment special on New Year’s Day. The show will air during the time slot traditionally reserved for live coverage of the Rose Parade.

The special will air at 8 a.m. on ABC, Hallmark Channel, KTLA Channel 5, NBC and RFD-TV, and at 7 a.m. on Univision on Jan. 1.

To protect everyone, all new images of the special were filmed using the strictest COVID security protocols.

“The Roses Tournament has invited all bands that had planned to perform at the 2021 Rose Parade to join us for the 2022 Rose Parade,” according to a statement issued by the Roses Tournament. “There are a lot of seniors who will be graduating and won’t have a chance to perform on January 1, so we offer them their own unique focus of action.”

Music and choreography were sent to each school for preparation and rehearsal, and each student submitted a video where they performed. The musical arrangement “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and the choreography of flags for the routine were a collaborative effort by Kevin Sherrill (band director at Arcadia High School), Kyle Luck (band director at Pasadena City College), Joey Kidd (drilling instructor at Arcadia High School) and the U.S. Navy West Coast Composite Band.

The TV entertainment special – “Celebrating The New Year of The Rose Parade presented by Honda” – will also feature special musical performances, exciting segments related to the Rose Parade, featured special Rose Bowl games, equestrian, guests of celebrities, spectacular floats from past years and New Year’s wishes from fans around the world.
