After Karnataka, the Tamil Nadu government has banned celebrations on New Year’s Eve and January 1 on beaches, hotels, clubs, beach resorts and on roads as part of a precautionary measure to combat coronavirus spread.
According to a state government press release, entry will be banned on the beaches these two days.
Meanwhile, 1,071 cases of Covid-19 were added to the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 8,07,962. After the discharge of 1,157 Covid-19 patients, the number of active cases was 9,495.
Nearly 12 deaths were recorded and 63,016 samples were tested.
In Chennai, 306 new cases were reported, followed by Coimbatore with 109 infections. In the remaining 35 districts, the daily cases were less than 100, and the Perambalur district reported zero cases, according to the state health department.
