The government has agreed to invest € 1 million in an online New Year’s festival that expects young people to be off the streets and out of trouble.

A total of 250 performers, including Douwe Bob, Jeangu Macrooy, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano and De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, have agreed to take part in the festival, which encourages spectators to celebrate NYE at home, with your favorite artists.

The idea was developed by Maarten Schulz, of the Follow the Beat festival platform, and expects at least 500,000 people to see the Goodbye2020 event online.

“I’m usually not a big fan of the broadcast because everything is better live,” he told NOS. But this year everything is different. Everything is closed, no plans can be made. So we look forward to making a contribution. “

In total, viewers will be able to choose from about 40 different streams, starting at 4pm on 31 December and ending at 5am on 1 January. Full training will be announced next week.

The project has the support of the government’s public security and counter-terrorism unit NCTV, which has allocated 1 million euros in funding.

Club closures and a pyrotechnics ban are set to put a brake on traditional Dutch New Year’s Eve parties. Some cities have already recruited additional police to try to eliminate possible problems.
