PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – We all know Philadelphia knows how to party. Thousands of people will flock to the city to ring the New Year on Tuesday night.
The countdown to 2021 is activated.
The first fireworks show at Penn’s Landing shot at 6 p.m., and the second show begins at midnight.
Philadelphia’s biggest attraction on New Year’s Eve offered an impressive show on the waterfront last year.

The best places to see the fireworks are at Blue Cross RiverRink, Penn’s Landing and the battleship New Jersey.
And this year, each fireworks show will have a different musical theme.
“One of the shows is based on video games,” said Almaz Crowe of the Delaware Waterfront Corporation. “So it will be fun to listen to some songs from your youth. And the second water because we are in the river. Tonight at our parties there will be skating, face painting, hot cocoa, hot cocoa with spikes, fantastic things happening.
The show lasts about 13 minutes, but the planning takes months.
“There are hundreds of hours of work to put something like this,” said pyrotechnician Andrew Clemenick.
Pyrotechnicians spend months planning and organizing the two Philly fireworks shows.
“We have about 10,000 pounds of explosives here for both the 6 p.m. and 12 p.m. shows,” Clemenick said.
Fireworks are placed in plastic tubes and the tin foil covers the tubes to prevent moisture from entering.
Lots and lots of cables tied up and down the barge connect all the fireworks to a computer that knows exactly when you need to turn them on.
