COIMBATORE: City police will close flyovers on Avinashi Road, north of Coimbatore and Gandhipuram to the public on New Year’s Eve to prevent adverse incidents.
Police will set up three-tier security provisions on Tuesday and deploy 1,500 troops, including deputy commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Police officers would be deployed on Avinashi Road, Race Race Road, Gandhipuram, RS Puram, Pollachi Road and Palakkad Road. They would patrol in 44 two-wheelers and 26 four-wheelers between 8pm on Tuesday and 4am on Wednesday.
Major intersections such as Lakshmi Mills, VK Road Junction and Anna statue Junction will be open to traffic on Avinashi Road and the remaining intersections will be closed with barricades.
Drivers at full speed and drunks would be stopped at shamiyanas installed at 25 checkpoints.
