The management of New Brighton’s Light Cinema has made the “difficult decision” to close its doors “until further notice” after the final premiere on Christmas Eve.
A Facebook post from the cinema said “With all the uncertainty of the level system next to an upcoming movie board, we won’t be reopening until further notice.
“We will continue to review the situation and keep you informed of any changes as soon as we can.”
The news provoked an unhappy response from filmmakers on their Facebook page.
Gillian Senior wrote, “Sorry to hear that. I just hope you can withstand the storm and survive. Good luck and we look forward to visiting you soon.”
Kate Carpenter commented: “Best wishes to all your staff and we look forward to opening you again soon”
Gemma Hughes wrote, “Oh, how sad. We went last night and tried the pizza. I felt really safe, the staff were wonderful and I had a lovely night. Your fingers crossed very quickly. My heart is addressed to all staff. ”
Mark Waterhouse wrote, “Terrible news. Your fingers crossed to reopen sooner rather than later.”
James Jonathan posted, “Horrible news. If you send love and hugs to all the staff and fingers crossed you can reopen the new year.”
Doreen Jones wrote, “I’m sorry, but I get it. I’ve been a couple of times and it’s been empty. All your staff have been fantastic.
“I hope to return soon. Like adding Peter Duncan’s Panto it was great.”
Mark Goulding remarked, “Gutted by you, but looking forward to being there on Christmas Eve!”
Joanne Cook wrote: “Everyone (especially Ben) will make the most of The Light while you are still open.
“I really hope you can reopen soon! I’m sure it was a very difficult decision to make and you tried so hard to stay open xx”
Pol Andy Madhouse wrote, “Best Cinmena, Anywhere, period! Here we wish you the best Christmas possible and your fingers crossed welcome you all as soon as possible.”
Jules Mcleod: “We came today we really liked the movie, etc. Wishing you all the best for the new year and hopefully see you next time you open xx”
Mike Ian Davies: “We look forward to seeing Bond’s new film again.”
Paul Mcknight added: “Hopefully James Bond can flood your people again soon! Stay safe.
Collette Williams Sinnett, who works for Light Cinema, responds, “All these lovely comments make me cry thank you, we need your support when we open a backup to have a lovely Christmas to everyone xxx”
