While some people will visit a distant family by the end of the decade, others will have stayed in Iowa City or settled at home after vacation trips.
Whatever your disposition, if you’re in Iowa City, you may not feel like striving for your own New Year’s Eve celebration or looking for something new and unusual.
For this reason, Iowa City Press-Citizen has compiled a list of possible things to do to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of this millennium on Tuesday, December 31st.
Big Grove Brewery
Located at 1225 South Gilbert Street, Big Grove Brewery hosts a children’s New Year’s Eve party. There are two children’s schedules available during the day at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the first of which includes a pancake bar.
Both hours will also include a balloon drop at noon and 6 p.m. respectively, which will be displayed on the big screen. and a children’s playlist with dance floor and disco dance.
Later in the evening, the venue will be transformed to accommodate an adult welcome suitable for the New Year from 9pm to 1am for those over 21 years of age.
There will be a DJ in the evening, Boomtown Premium beer will be gone by the time we enter 2021 and there will be special menus to celebrate the New Year. All this is completed with fireworks at midnight.
Brix cheese
Located at 209 North Linn Street, Brix Cheese Shop celebrates the celebration of New Year’s Eve champagne from 10pm to 1am, just after entering the new decade.
“For the first time we will be able to stay open beyond midnight to be able to sound the new year,” the event’s online page reads.
As a celebration, the place will have all the bottles of champagne marked at half time throughout the day.
Black rock
Starting at 9 p.m., Blackstone, which features “comfortable American food,” will host a special edition of Name That Tune. Before that, however, at 4 p.m., the restaurant (located at 503 Westbury Drive) will begin serving its New Year’s Eve specials.
Like other places in the area, BlackStone will provide free champagne at midnight.
hotelVetro Ballroom
At 201 South Linn Street, hotelVetro will host a party at 8pm to celebrate the new year at a 1920s theme event.
The celebration will include performances by The Dandelion Stompers – a band from Iowa City with a New Orleans jazz sound – and Sweetie & The Toothaches, a “blues jump band” based in St. Louis. Louis.
Individual tickets range from $ 35 for students to $ 100 for those who also want to get a bracelet for an open bar with drinks from the Prohibition era.
The Mill
Given that auld lang syne has Celtic-created lyrics, it’s a bit appropriate for The Mill to bring the new year with traditional Celtic songs.
While the show won’t start or last until midnight, scheduled instead from 4 to 7 p.m., the band Wylde Nept will have a special Irish New Year’s show at the food and music venue located at 120 East Burlington Street.
The band based in Cedar Rapids features a variety of traditional music both original and original. Tickets are $ 10 or $ 15 in advance on the day of the show.
Rec. Robert A. Lee Community Center
Just because it’s December doesn’t mean you can’t go to the beach. Those who do not want to face the winter wind on a traditional sandy coast can settle for a safer alternative.
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the center’s recreation center, 220 South Gilbert Street, will host a pool party for the family, including sports for swimmers ages two to 12. Those interested can register online at Iowa City Parks & Recreation. page.
Shakespeare’s Pub and Grill
For those who want to sing or (by chance) eat and are more drawn to the east side of Iowa City, Shakespeare’s offers the opportunity to make your way into the new year.
Shakespeare’s Pub and Grill, 819 South First Avenue, will host a karaoke event with drinks and party favors starting at 9 p.m. There will also be a meat and lobster dinner available from 5pm to 9pm that night.
Nautical club
The Yacht Club invites guests aged 19 and over to sing until the arrival of the New Year. Starting at 8 p.m., the South Linn 13th Street Club will host an overnight karaoke contest.
The kitchen will be open, there will be over $ 1,000 in prizes, and when this musical arrives at midnight, there will be free champagne.
Admission is $ 10.
