Officials from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Pentagon on Wednesday hold a joint session on the Trump administration’s Covid-19 vaccine program, Operation Warp Speed, as Americans receive some of the first shots.
Just over a million people in the U.S. have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine as of Wednesday morning, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is a far cry from the federal government’s goal of inoculating 20 million Americans by the end of the year.
Wednesday before, the director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins said that if the U.S. government fails to meet its vaccination goal by the end of this month, he hopes Americans “understand that this is a huge logistical challenge.”
“Frankly, I think it’s pretty amazing that it’s gone as fast as it has been, recognizing that it’s only been 10 days since the FDA gave its first approval for emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine and then a week then for Modern, ”Collins told CNN.
