As one year ends and the new year begins, we often look for ways to improve our health, lose extra pounds to enjoy our favorite foods and treats during the holidays. It’s time to re-establish our routine and put aside unhealthy habits. Here are some tips to help you have lasting success and improve your overall health.
If you smoke, take steps to stop smoking. Check out online workshops and resources. Limit your alcohol intake. Set easy goals. Divide goals into small parts that can be encouraging. For example, if you try to lose 20
pounds in a month, maybe you start losing 1-2 pounds a week. Walk or run for 20 minutes a day until you reach the goal of walking or running a marathon.
Restart your diet. Clean closets and refrigerator. Get rid of greasy, sugary foods and snacks like chips and soft drinks. Buy healthier snacks like fruits and vegetables. Drink more water. Remember that you are what you eat.
When the new year begins, it’s also a good reminder to take care of yourself. Self-care is important. It’s not at all selfish to pamper and treat yourself from time to time. Last year was difficult for everyone, staying home proved to affect our mental and emotional health. Take time to pause when overwhelmed. Make it a point to set aside time a day for peace and relaxation. Remember that health not only includes a visit to your doctor, but should also include a visit to your dental professionals. The pandemic has been shown to wreak havoc on dental health. We have seen that many dental problems arise due to the excessive stress that the covidi had thrown at us. Remember to brush and floss at least twice a day. As you plan your annual checkup with your doctors, be sure to visit your dentists and hygienists.
