ESPN 300 runner-up Camar Wheaton committed to Alabama on Wednesday, joining Crimson Tide’s No. 1 recruiting class.
Wheaton is the No. 41 potential ranked overall, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound return from Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas. He chose Alabama over Oklahoma and gave Crimson Tide 20 ESPN 300 commitments.
It’s the first return commitment in this class for Alabama, but it’s the fifth ESPN 300 to return the show in the last three classes.
His commitment gives Nick Saban and his staff seven commitments ranked in the top 50 and 12 in the top 100. The Tide already had the highest category before that commitment, but they are now advancing their leadership over the state of Ohio.
The Buckeyes have two five-star commitments and 17 possible ESPN 300s. With that commitment, Alabama has three five-star prospects, 20 ESPN 300 commitments and 25 total commitments in class.
The two programs will continue to play in the position to sign the No. 1 class in February, but that addition will make it difficult to capture Alabama for Ohio State.
