The New York Jets won’t have the best player on their defense when they host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Defensive linebacker Quinnen Williams will miss the match, as well as Week 17, with a neck injury.
Williams must clear the concussion protocol before the Jets can officially enter IR. He suffered both injuries in the same play in New York’s unexpected victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft outside of USC, Williams proved worthy of the high draft pick category in his second season. In 13 games, Williams recorded a maximum of seven sacks, 10 TFLs, 14 QB shots, three passing defenses and two forced shots to go with his 55 total attacks. No other Jets player has more than two sacks.
It’s a major loss for the Jets 1-13 and their defense, which has yielded at least four offensive touchdowns in six of the last eight games, even with Williams wreaking havoc ahead.
