People with cosmetic facial fillers could experience inflammation and inflammation with one of the coronavirus vaccines, the FDA advisory committee noted.
According to the committee, several participants in the process with fillings have already experienced side effects. A California-based dermatologist said the reaction was immunological, ABC7 reported Thursday.
“Your immune system that causes inflammation increases when you get a vaccine, that’s how it should work,” said Dr. Shirley Chi, who noted that the side effects were easily treated by medical staff.
“So it makes sense that you see an immune response in certain areas where they see some substance that is not a natural substance in your body.”
He said, however, that side effects should not stop people from getting the vaccine.
“In these cases, all patients had swelling and inflammation in the area that received the filling,” Chi said.
“A couple of patients had cheek filling six months before the vaccine and one patient had a lip filling two days after the vaccine. They were all treated with steroids and antihistamines and all their reactions were resolved. “
On Friday, Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine received FDA approval, offering an alternative to that of Pfizer and BioNTech.
The two work “better than we almost dared expect,” said NIH director Dr. Francis Collins, in The Associated Press. “Science works here. Science has done something amazing.”
Early results from large unfinished studies show that both vaccines appear safe and strongly protective, although Moderna’s is easier to handle, as it does not need to be stored at freezing temperatures.
