DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 469,928 as of Wednesday, including 11,775 deaths, state officials report.
Wednesday’s update includes 3,443 new cases and 70 additional deaths. On Tuesday, the state reported a total of 466,485 confirmed cases and 11,705 deaths.
- According to its website, the state will not provide the updated COVID-19 numbers on Christmas Day. The last update was on December 23 and the next update is expected on Saturday, December 26.
The Michigan 7-day average for new COVID cases dropped to 3,311 as of Wednesday. The state had a total of about 173,400 active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday.
Hospitalizations began to decline in December. As of Wednesday, there were 3,086 COVID patients in Michigan hospitals, of whom 738 were in critical care.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 18 million cases of COVID have been reported nationwide since Wednesday afternoon. More than 329,000 have died in the United States from the virus.
Worldwide, more than 78 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.7 million have died as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Johns Hopkins University. The actual figures are certainly much higher, due to limited evidence, different ways in which nations count the dead, and the deliberate misinformation of some governments.

Michigan restaurants are still struggling to retake the inner dining room, which is banned by state order COVID-19, however Governor Gretchen Whitmer hinted that good news might come soon.

The state is it is currently in a “pause” that puts stricter COVID-19 regulations in restaurants, schools and more, however this order was scheduled to expire on Sunday (December 20).
Now, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has released a revised version of the order, which will run through Jan. 15.

He Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched “CV19 CheckUp”: a free and anonymous tool that assesses the risks of someone associated with COVID-19.

“This tool, which we will make available to all Michiganders, helps people understand their risk based on their life situation and personal behavior, and offers recommendations to reduce these risks and at the same time connect people to services if it is necessary, ”said Dr. Alexis Travis, senior deputy director of the Agency for Aging and Adult Services.
Travis said the tool can be used by all Michigan residents, but is specifically designed to help adults 60 and older. It is anonymous and does not require any name, email address or identifier of any kind.
The tool used artificial intelligence to analyze each person using an online questionnaire. It is designed for those who are considered high risk.
The tool ‘s algorithms are driven by science and medicine, using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.
