President-elect Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, shared on their social media today a Christmas message inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Jill and I wish you and your family joy, health and happiness this season,” the president-elect said. “But we know that for many of you in our nation this has been a very difficult year. And in this season of hope we are reminded of our common humanity and what we are called to do for one another.”
The couple urged people to be a source of help and hope for both friends and family and strangers, recognizing that the pandemic has increased unemployment and prevented families from gathering for Christmas.
“Although our celebrations are easing, we know this won’t be forever, and brighter days will come soon,” Biden said.
For her part, the doctor thanked the “front-line and essential workers who have put themselves at risk for all of us, and for the scientists and researchers who worked to deliver vaccines that are an incredible scientific breakthrough.”
