The career highs were a topic for the 49ers in their Week 16 win over the Cardinals. A lot of players got better hits in a single game or set new highs in the race during San Francisco’s 20-12 victory.
Runner Jeff Wilson Jr. led a strong day for the 49ers who attacked quickly. He had 22 quick attempts to reach a maximum of 183 yards. His best previous result was his 112-yard performance against the Patriots in Week 7.
Quarterback CJ Beathard was not prolific on the air against the Cardinals. He completed 13 of his 22 throws over 182 yards, but managed to produce the top three touchdown passes of the race. He had previously thrown two touchdowns four times. It was the first time he threw several touchdowns in a game without interception.
Two of San Francisco’s touchdowns came from winger Kyle Juszczyk. His pair of touchdown recipes marked the first time in his eight-year career that he had a multi-touchdown game. Juszczyk also set the highest level of touchdowns in a season with six, which eclipses his maximum of five in 2015.
Defender Fred Warner also had a great game, including a huge fourth-down break in the fourth quarter to eliminate a Cardinals comeback attempt. Warner ended up getting credit for three-pass breaks. This clears his previous high of two, which he did once in each of his first two seasons.
San Francisco had three sacks as a team and each scored a new run for the player who recorded it. Kerry Hyder Jr. he had one to give him an 8.5 for the season. This exceeds the 8.0 he posted in the 2016 season.
K’Waun Williams came out on the corner to knock down Cardinal QB Kyler Murray. It was his second sack of the season and in 2020 it became the first time Williams had more than one sack in a year.
Defensive team DJ Jones flew through the center of the Cardinals ’offensive line for his third sack of the year. That clears the 2.0 maximum he set a season ago.
While it’s been a disappointing year for the 49ers, some of the club’s individual performances have given them a silver lining and helped them stay competitive in a year that didn’t turn out very well.
