Worldwide, more than 80 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.7 million have died by Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University. The actual figures are certainly much higher, due to limited evidence, of different ways in which nations count the dead, and the deliberate under-reporting of some governments.
