Rockford treatment: Suspect arrested after 6 shots, 3 killed in apparent random act at Don Carter Lanes bowling alley, according to police

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WLS) – A gunman opened fire inside a bowling alley in Rockford, killing three people and injuring three others on Saturday night in what authorities believe was a random attack.

Police identified two of the victims as teenagers, but did not clarify their condition or their ages Sunday morning.

Police have a suspect detained after a massive deadly shooting on a bowling alley on Saturday evening.

Police said they believed the 37-year-old man in custody was solely responsible for Saturday’s shootings.

Police have scheduled an information session for Sunday morning.

Rockford police chief Dan O’Shea said Saturday he did not believe any officers fired their weapons, but the shooter was active when police arrived at the scene.

Rockford police asked the public to avoid the area during the next investigation in a tweet about 7:15 p.m.

O’Shea said Rockford police received calls to fire shots at the bowling alley at 6:55 p.m.

U.S. Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, whose district includes Rockford, tweeted about “Praying for the victims and their families tonight after the attack hit our community.”

Rockford is about 80 miles northwest of Chicago.
