Pittsburgh Steelers’ Diontae Johnson has a 39-yard TD catch against the Indianapolis Colts

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers’ end-of-third-quarter score will drop to the record as a 39-yard touchdown, but Ben Roethlisberger’s ball to Diontae Johnson went about 50 yards into the air to take them to less than two points from the Indianapolis Colts.

It was a drastic departure from the short steps and incompletions that overwhelmed the first half of Sunday afternoon’s game against the Colts.

For most of the game, Roethlisberger looked like the quarterback who threw just 19 yards in the first half in Monday’s loss to the Bengals. But with a 24-7 lead with just over three minutes left in the third quarter, Roethlisberger threw the deepest pitch of the game and hit Johnson in the end zone on the first play of his ninth puck.

On the verge of being surprised in their last game in the regular season, the Steelers badly needed the touchdown, especially after the previous drive ended in a fourth-quarter failure on the goal line. Despite a Colts penalty that put the ball on the 1-yard line, the Steelers were unable to hit it.
