A mad man stabbed at least seven people, most apparently elderly women, in an alleged knife attack in China, according to a state media and a report.
The suspect, identified only by his last name, Yang, was arrested after a bloodbath in the early hours of the morning in front of a closed school in Kaiyuan, Liaoning Province, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The man began attacking people, including some who appeared to have come out of a nearby bathroom, CCTV said. Among the victims were also seven injured, such as a police officer who tried to arrest him.
Most of the victims, who were not identified by officials, appeared to be middle-aged or elderly women, a lady named Liu told the South China Morning Post.
The assailant “appeared to be in his fifties,” added Liu, who runs a nearby music studio.
“[The suspect] he only stabbed the strangers with a knife. It was really horrible, ”he said.
“It’s lucky that the school is out today. Otherwise, there could be more casualties. “
Chinese law restricts the sale and possession of firearms, but massive knife attacks have become an alarming problem.
In June, a school security guard with a knife injured at least 39 people in a kindergarten in the southern region of Guangxi. The culprit was sentenced to death.
In 2018, a man killed one and injured 12 in a knife attack at a shopping mall in Beijing.
