A magnitude 6.7 earthquake was felt in southern Chile on Sunday with no casualties or property damage so far.
The earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean at 06:39 pm and had its epicenter 140 kilometers (86 miles) southwest of Corral, nearly 900 kilometers (559 miles) from Santiago, in the south of the country, the U.S. Geological Survey has reported. It passed to a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
It was possible to perceive in five regions of the south of Chile: Dims, the Araucanía, Biobío, the Rivers and the Lagos.
The National Emergency Office of the Interior Ministry described the move as “medium intensity”. At the moment there are no reports of damage to people or property, he added, and basic services are working normally.
The Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service reported that the movement does not meet the conditions to decree a tsunami warning.
Commander Rodrigo Holzapel, of the Toltén fire brigade in the Araucanía region, said that after the quake they had not received emergency calls.
