Armed with a knife a man kills seven people in China

A man armed with a knife killed seven people and injured an equal number on Sunday in a town in northeast China, for reasons still unknown, according to state media.

The tragedy occurred early Sunday in the streets of Kaiyuan, Liaoning Province, Xinhua news agency reported.

The assailant killed seven people and injured three more in what appears to have been an “indiscriminate attack”, after which he was arrested by police in front of a bathing establishment, according to the same font.

An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of this drama, indicated the Kaiyuan Public Security Bureau in a statement posted on the social network Weibo (equivalent to Twitter in China).

Knife attacks are quite common in China, due to the lack of other weapons to kill in a country where ordinary citizens are not allowed to carry firearms.

Generally, these types of murders are perpetrated blindly, for no personal purpose, per people who perceive themselves as victims of injustice and seek revenge on society.

In February 2019, an individual who suspected his wife of being unfaithful to him stabbed eight people to death and wounded seven in a village in Gansu Province (northwest).

Also in April 2018, another individual killed nine high school students leaving their high school in Shaanxi Province (north), injuring another 12. The 28-year-old said he acted for revenge after being the victim of harassment while studying at the same school.
