ORLANDO, Fla. – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Florida increased by 7,000, health officials reported Sunday.
New cases reported on Sunday raised the state’s figure to more than 1.25 million since the outbreak began earlier this year.
More than 21,200 Floridians have now died as a result of COVID-19, with more than 70 new deaths added to the death toll on Sunday.
The number of people tested for COVID-19 was significantly lower over the past two days, and it remains to be seen whether or not meetings over the Christmas weekend will increase the number of infections in the state, such as was the case after the Thanksgiving holiday.
More than 171,000 people were tested for the virus on Friday and Saturday, dramatically below the 343,000 that were done the previous two days.
More than 6,300 people were in hospital Sunday because of the virus, according to data from the State Department of Health.
