More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot are recalled after reports of blades falling while spinning, hitting people and causing property damage.
NEW YORK – More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot are recalled after reports that blades fell while turning, hitting people and causing property damage.
Hampton Bay Mara’s indoor and outdoor ceiling fans were sold this year between April and October at Home Depot stores and on their website. About 182,000 were sold in the United States and 8,800 in Canada. They cost about $ 150.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said it received 47 reports of falling leaves, two reports of people being hit by them and four reports of leaves causing property damage.
Fan owners should stop using them immediately and inspect them if the blades are unsafe or have a gap between them and the fan base, the CPSC said.
King of Fans, which manufactures ceiling fans, posted a video on its website with instructions on how to inspect the fan. The company said it will replace any of the defective ceiling fans for free.
