Spain will carry out a register of people who refuse to be vaccinated against covid-19 and will share it with other countries of the European Union, although their data will not be made public, said on Monday the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa.
In an interview on La Sexta television, Salvador Illa insisted that Spaniards will not be forced to be vaccinated against covid-19.
With those who do not want to be vaccinated, “what is going to be done is a record that will also be shared with other European partners (…), with those people who have been offered and simply , they have rejected it, “he explained.
“It’s not a document to make public and it’s going to be done with the utmost respect for data protection,” he added.
According to a recent poll by the Public Demographic Institute, 28% of Spaniards are opposed to getting vaccinated immediately, compared to 40.5% who are willing to do so now and 16.2% who have do so if the drug “has guarantees” and “is reliable”.
These acceptance percentages increased significantly with respect to the results of the survey conducted in November, when 47% of respondents did not want to be vaccinated.
“It seems to me that by now we all see that the way to defeat the virus is to vaccinate all or how many more, the better,” Island said.
The vaccine manufactured by Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories began being administered on Sunday in many European countries.
Spain, which has officially counted some 50,000 dead and more than 1.8 million infected since the start of the pandemic, also began immunizing its population on Sunday, giving priority to residents and geriatric workers.
The government expects to vaccinate between 15 and 20 million people, out of a population of 47 million, during the first half of 2021, even 2.5 million before the end of February.
