Here’s today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data through December 27th.
Order capacity and stay at the ICU:
- The current capacity of the ICU for the Southern California region is now 0.0% and the state will update it daily.
- He Regional order of stay at home it remains in force and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for various sectors.
- The order will remain in force until the capacity of the ICU in the region meets or exceeds 15%.
Community configuration outbreaks:
- No new community outbreaks were confirmed on December 27th.
- On December 26, ten new community outbreaks were confirmed: six in business settings, two in healthcare settings, one in emergency services, and one in a community-based organization.
- On December 25, nine outbreaks in the community were confirmed: four in business settings, two in healthcare settings, two in faith-based agencies, and one in a distribution warehouse.
- On December 24, fourteen new community outbreaks were confirmed: three in business settings, three in healthcare settings, three in faith-based agency settings, one in a daycare / preschool / daycare center, one in a preschool setting, one in an atmospheric distribution warehouse, one in a restaurant and one in a hotel / resort / spa.
- In the last seven days (December 21-27), 59 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
- The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger for seven or more days.
- An outbreak of a community setting is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one environment and in people from different households over the past 14 days.
Tests:
- On December 27, 18,972 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new cases confirmed by laboratory was 9%.
- The average percentage of 14-day positive cases is 10.4%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The average daily test for 7 days is 23,668.
- People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care workers and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or participated in holiday meetings are also urged.
Cases:
- On December 27, 1,751 new cases were reported to the county. The total for the region is now 147,530.
- 5,743 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,201 or 0.8% of all cases and 20.9% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- On December 27, two new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the county. The total for the region is now 1,404.
- Two men died between December 20 and December 21 and their age ranged from the mid-1930s to the late 1960s.
- Both had underlying medical conditions.
- On December 24, twenty deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county.
- Six women and 14 men died between December 18 and 24, and their age ranged from the mid-1950s to the mid-1990s.
- Seventeen had underlying medical conditions and one did not. Two have pending medical history.
