Definitive file in case Odebrecht will have to wait

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has argued that the rulings of the provisional and final files, which excluded seven people from the charges in the Odebrecht case, are therefore contradictory, so that they alone are null and void.

While Judge José Alejandro Vargas, who heard the objection yesterday, set the reading of the sentence on the challenge for January 14, at 5:00 p.m.

The public hearing began at 9:12 a.m. and lasted until 4:41 p.m., with two recesses and some interruptions due to technical issues. The audience was broadcast on youtube.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office, represented by prosecutors Mirian Ortiz and Rosa Alba García, has pointed out that in the provisional files the lack of sufficient evidence against the then accused was argued, but that in the final ones they were justified in that they did not there was criminal wrongdoing to be prosecuted.

Considering that they were irregular, the Public Ministry requested Magistrate Vargas, coordinating judge of the courts of instruction of the National District, to order the annulment of the final files, arranged in the past management of solicitor Jean Alain Rodríguez.

This decision favored ex-legislators Ruddy González and Julio César Valentín; the current president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco; the interim president of PLD, Temístocles Montás; Maximum Oil; Radhamés Segura and Bernardo Castellanos

Brazilian construction company Norberto Odebrecht admitted to paying bribes to the country for $ 92 million, in exchange for numerous works.
