The AirPods Pro 2 could come in two sizes

Leaker Mr-white, who in the past has shared exact details about Apple’s product plans, today tweeted alleged images of internal hardware to be used in second-generation AirPods Pro headphones that are expected to be released sometime in 2021.

In the following photos, the hardware on the right side of the image appears to be current AirPods Pro hardware, while the hardware on the right is designed for the next generation AirApods Pro. The cables come in two different sizes, which Mr-white suggests is an indication that the irAirPods Pro‌ 2 may come in two sizes.

Rumors of Bloomberg have suggested that the second-generation version of the irAirPods Pro‌ will have a more compact design that removes the short stem protruding from the bottom. The irAirPods Pro‌ could have a more rounded shape similar to headphones from companies like Google and Samsung, and for this design, it might make sense to offer different sizes for a better fit.

Apple is said to be struggling to shrink the AirPods to the right size to remove the stem, so there’s a chance this won’t happen, and that could explain why the hardware designs shared by Mr-white appear to be similar in size to current ‌AirPods Pro‌ hardware.

Rumors have also said that the “AirPods Pro” will feature a new wireless chip. Mr-White says the new irAirPods Pro‌ still has a “W2 chip”, but it’s unclear what that means. The current irAirPods Pro‌ uses an H1 processor that has a wireless chip that is the successor to the original W1 chip of the first generation irAirPods‌, so here it is possible that W2 refers to the H1 and does not indicate any new wireless chip technology .

Mr-white has shared accurate details of Apple in the past, but it’s not always right. Earlier this year, Mr-White shared pictures of a braided cable that was said to line the iPhone 12, but that was not erased. He has also said that Apple is working on a black Apple Pencil, and that it has not yet appeared. However, he shared the first leaks of the case and screen of Apple’s iPhone 12, which were accurate.

It is not yet known exactly when an updated version of the AirPods Pro will be released, but the updated headphones are expected to be released sometime in 2021.
