Leaker gives new details about the folding iPhone – BGR

  • A leaker says Apple is working on a second folding iPhone prototype, but the casing device won’t be released anytime soon.
  • The foldable iPhone would look like the Galaxy Z Flip phone, with a foldable OLED screen from Samsung.
  • The phone could have a release date in September 2022 at the earliest, but there is no warranty whatsoever.

Samsung has been making folding phones for years before it finally took off last year. Samsung felt it was ready to launch the world’s first folding mobile phone, which turned out not to be the world’s first folding phone. And the Galaxy Fold didn’t turn out to be a well-thought-out design either. Samsung had to cancel the launch in late April after reviewers found two major issues with the phone. The folding screen had a screen-like cover that would destroy the screen if removed. In addition, the hinge allowed garbage to get inside the phone, which also affected the screen. Samsung needed five months to launch a redesigned version of the phone. The Z Flip and Z Fold 2 that followed did not repeat these errors. But the failed launch of Galaxy Fold proved that technology was not ready for the kind of smartphone many wanted.

We are moving fast towards the end of 2020 and we have a new rumor detailing the type of folding headset that many people would love to see. This is a shell iPhone with a folding screen similar to the Z Flip. But this device will not arrive soon.

Youtuber Jon Prosser, who became a prolific leaker, said a few months ago that Apple is developing a folding iPhone similar to the Galaxy Z Flip. But instead of featuring a foldable, continuous screen, this device features two different screens separated by a hinge in the center.

In a new video, Prosser said Apple is also prototyping a foldable iPhone with a casing design that will include a single folding screen. Apple is reportedly testing howitzers at a Foxconn factory in Shenzhen. According to their sources, they are not testing the full phone. Instead, they are looking at the durability of the hinge. The phone would end up featuring a Samsung folding screen instead of a microLED panel.

The report says Apple will decide on one of the two folding prototypes described above, rather than launching one. Reports saying a folding iPhone could be good in September 2022 are “a good guess,” Prosser says. A launch in 2022 or 2023 would make sense, given current progress.

Samsung is expected to launch at least one new fold next year and other Android phone vendors could do the same. After all, Huawei and Motorola have already launched their first folding phones and several Chinese smartphone manufacturers have tested some of their concepts.

When the first foldable iPhone arrives in 2022 or later, there will be many foldable phones on the market.

It’s not uncommon to see Apple take its time with new technology. The good news here is that Apple is not rushing to the foldable iPhone. Apple will do this as long as it is confident that it can deliver a premium folding experience. By then, we look forward to seeing more innovations that will benefit folding devices, including the best folding glass and hinge display technologies that increase the durability of these devices. Not to mention that the price has to go down significantly. Even phones like the Galaxy Z Flip or the Motorola Razr Folder are more expensive than normal high-end flagships.

Also, there is no guarantee that Apple will continue with its foldable plans for iPhone if the final product does not meet its standards. Apple’s patents show that the company is studying all kinds of technologies, although not all of them are transformed into commercial products.
