SAINT ANTHONY – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 at its daily briefing Wednesday night.

Nirenberg reported 115,685 COVID-19 cases in total and 1,538 deaths in total in Bexar County, an increase of 1,323 new cases as of Wednesday. Seventeen new deaths have been reported today.

The moving average of cases over 7 days is 1,121.

Dr. Colleen Bridger, assistant city manager and interim director of Metro Health, said 90,000 COVID-19 vaccines are currently allocated for Bexar County. He said vaccine providers in the area have received about 50,000 doses, meaning the county currently does not have enough vaccines for everyone in phase 1A.

Vendors have already administered about 30,000 vaccines, Bridger said.

Bridger said providers will try to vaccinate as many people as possible, including those in Phase 1B, but health workers will be prioritized.

Bridger said Metro Health plans a large-scale deployment when the supply becomes available to more people. He said areas with medical care will be earmarked first.
