Governor Amends Executive Order and Eliminates Dry Law

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced announced today, Wednesday, that she amended the current Executive Order 2020-087 against COVID-19, as it removed the ban on the consumption, sale and sale of alcoholic beverages on Saturdays and Sundays, and shops. they will be able to open within the curfew schedule, not limited to 8:30 pm

These changes are effective immediately.

“We have seen in recent days, thankfully, a decrease in the number of hospitalizations for COVID-19. Since early December, the number of hospitalizations has dropped by 30% with about 200 fewer cases than a few weeks ago, thanks to the measures we have taken, this means that hospital capacity remains at manageable levels and that Puerto Rico has fallen to a yellow alert level, so we have decided to make the order more flexible in some respects. , removing the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages on Saturdays and Sundays, and allowing authorized shops to operate within the curfew hours, from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm, ”Vázquez Garced explained.

He clarified that the curfew remains as it is, also the “lock down” on Sundays. The occupancy rate in restaurants and other establishments remains at 30% capacity.

“It is important not to lower our guard, as we continue to be at risk of infection. But just as we restrict measures when there is an increase in cases, we also make it more flexible to see fewer cases of hospitalizations for the virus, allowing capacity in hospitals has gone up. We want the well-being of all the people who live on this island, “the governor added.

The Executive Order is valid until January 7, 2021.
