Bodycam shows Minneapolis police fatally shooting a motorist

Dramatic police footage shows the moment Minneapolis police shot dead a man during a traffic stop Wednesday.

The images, released Thursday by police in the city of Minnesota, show an officer pointing a gun at a white sedan as it begins to pull away from him at a gas station.

He hears another agent shout, “Stop your car!”

Then, the policeman wearing the body camera yells at the driver: “Hands up. Hands up. “

The white car pulls away from the snow but is cornered by three police vehicles.

“Hands up, cop,” the officer is heard shouting with the camera. “Hands up…. F – k.”

Then several prey sounds.

The 27-second video was posted on the city’s website around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The driver, identified by family on Thursday as 23-year-old Dolal Idd, appears to have an object in his hand at one point in the video, but it is unclear if the first shot was from his vehicle.

Minneapolis police have not said whether a weapon was recovered from the vehicle, but sources told WCCO-TV it was there.

Minneapolis police chief Medaria Arradondo said during a briefing that the department would post the images in an effort to be transparent.

Police said police were trying to arrest Idd, but did not provide details on why they tried to interrogate him.

A woman in the passenger seat during the shooting was not injured.

The shooting was the first police death in the city since the May 25 arrest of George Floyd, whose death helped spark global protests by Black Lives Matter.
