About 8,000 people may be eligible to receive the first $ 1,200 economic impact payment, granted through the federal Cares Economic Stimulus Act, but have not yet received it, the Treasury Department reported today.
“This group of 8,000 consists of applications that did not pass the automatic protocols and could still be eligible to claim this benefit with their Income Contribution Record Sheet for the 2020 contributory year.”, Has indicated the Secretary of Finance, Francisco Parés Alicea, through a press release.
Today expired the period for the distribution of financial aid to citizens, as provided in Congress. Faced with this, those eligible individuals who have not received it will have to use other options to claim it, Parés Alicea noted.
In total, Treasury disbursed $ 2.7 billion to approximately 1.8 million families, the official detailed.
“However, we remind people who understand that they are eligible under the requirements set out in federal law and did not receive payment, that they can apply for the money as a refundable credit with the filing of the Sheet of annotations of Contribution on Income corresponding to the year 2020, to be in the year 2021 “, expressed the secretary, who emphasized that later details will be given on how to claim this credit.
The Secretary of the Treasury clarified that 24,000 payment claims are still pending, but most do not qualify, mainly because these are individuals who were claimed as dependents by other taxpayers. Also, duplicate or triplicate applications were received in the Unified Internal Revenue System (SURI).
Similarly, Parés Alicea noted that the agency received back 4,303 checks that the postal service could not deliver to its recipient.
“In these cases, people who requested payment by mail and did not receive it, must write to the SURI Assistance link (suri.hacienda.pr.gov), with a copy of the Social Security card and photo identification, to be able to corroborate your information and if in effect the check was returned and is in the Inland Revenue, in this case you will receive the instructions to go to collect, “he said.
Parés Alicea noted that the Treasury has sent individuals, in recent days, notifications of the payment of $ 1,200. These notifications are unrelated to the new $ 600 federal aid passed last week, after President Donald Trump signed the new economic stimulus law to manage the pandemic. This financial aid will be distributed on the island once the Federal Treasury Department approves the distribution plan worked out by the Treasury.
