The 25-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) Has died, the congressman’s office said Thursday.
Thomas Bloom Raskin, a sophomore at Harvard Law School, was remembered as “pure magic.” in a statement from his parents.
“His brilliance and compassion knew no bounds,” legislator and his wife, Sarah Bloom Raskin, said of his son.
“He passionately loved his family, friends and animals, and dedicated himself to the cause of the world’s poor. We are devastated and overthrown to be without him. “
The statement did not provide any cause or form of death.
Raskin’s office said the congressman and his family are “grateful for the outpouring of support and love from neighbors, voters and friends,” but urged everyone to “observe the strict COVID-19 protocols during this time of mourning “.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is survived by his sisters, Hannah and Tabitha, grandparents, Arlene Bloom and Lynn Raskin, and dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, according to the statement.
On Thursday night there were tributes to the young man and condolences to the family.
“My heart is completely broken by my dear friend @RepRaskin, Sarah and her family in this devastating loss,” said New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez he tweeted.
“Tommy was an amazing, bright beam of light. All our thoughts go out to the Raskin family and we pray for the support to wrap them in this unimaginable moment. “
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan he wrote this, “The First Lady and I give our deepest sympathies for this heartbreaking loss.”
“I ask all Marylanders to keep the Raskin family in your prayers.”
Arrangements for the funeral and memorial service will be announced later.
