Lexington police are clarifying the situation at the center after the evacuation

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) – Police have removed a huge disruption in downtown Lexington on New Year’s Eve.

Just before 8 p.m., police evacuated a large area, including half a dozen blocks, and several bars.

We had several reports that police were looking at a very parked RV in W. Short St. and Market.

Police said in a tweet that an officer noticed the large motorhome. An explosives detection dog was introduced that “alerted” the vehicle.

The police department’s hazardous devices unit responded to the scene. Police say he contacted the RV driver and no explosives were found.

“Public safety is one of my top priorities and tonight’s events in the city center remind us of its importance. In our city, a diligent and well-trained police force is protecting us, “Mayor Linda Gorton said in a statement.” Thank you to our officers. “

We continue to work to gather more information.
