Massachusetts on Thursday set a record for COVID-19 cases, which reported 6,887, according to the state Department of Public Health.

The previous one-day record was December 3, although that day’s report included nearly 700 backward cases. On December 26, 7,424 cases were reported, but this included two days, as the Department of Public Health did not report any on Christmas Day.

There are now 359,445 confirmed cases in Massachusetts, and Thursday’s 81 deaths raised the number to 12,157, according to health officials. Another 266 COVID-19-related deaths are likely to be considered.

According to the report, the percentage of coronavirus tests that returned positive, on average, has risen to 8.6%.

The number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased to 2,271. Of that number, 417 appear in intensive care units and 240 are intubated, according to DPH.

Gov. Charlie Baker said Wednesday that approximately 78,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered statewide as of Tuesday and that an estimated 20,000 people live and work in long-term care centers. they should be vaccinated at one of the 50 vaccination clinics this week.
