SPRINGFIELD, Mo (KY3) – Springfield City Utilities crews work throughout the morning to restore energy to thousands of people on the grid after a New Year’s Day ice storm.
At 11 a.m., Joel Alexander of City Utilities reported 6,000 customers without electrical service. Alexander says changing conditions with rainfall and temperatures often hamper restoration efforts.
Alexander says at the peak of the storm, more than 12,000 customers were without electricity.
“Overnight, CU line and tree teams began responding to interruptions when the weather allowed,” Alexander said in an update Friday morning. “Most of the cuts have been created by members and trees that contact the power lines. However, there is at least one utility structure that has been damaged. Additional line and tree equipment arrives to help CU teams ”.
Additional line and tree equipment has arrived to help them and they will make repairs as soon as possible.
