COVID-19 hospitalizations decrease when the new year begins

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Department of Public Health reported Friday a total of 575 COVID-19-related hospitalizations in the state. That number has dropped 25 from that time yesterday.

As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, the use of intensive fans and ICUs is also declining. The state reported 117 patients in the ICU (below the 134 reported this time on Thursday) and 63 patients with ventilators (compared to 69 on Thursday).

The state reported over the past 24 hours that an additional 2,132 Yowans have tested positive for COVID-19 and the state added 7 more COVID-19-related deaths.

According to state data this morning, a total of 282,435 Yowans have tested positive for COVID-19 and 3,898 Yowans have died from the virus since the pandemic began.

These data show that COVID-19 was the underlying cause of 3,578 deaths, and COVID-19 was a contributing factor in 320 deaths.

A total of 241,228 Yowans have recovered from COVID-19.

According to data provided by the state, 4,629 tests were reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 1,359,654 tests have been performed since the beginning of the pandemic. According to these data, the positivity rate in the last 24 hours was 46.1 percent.
