Hillsborough, North Carolina – A New Year’s Day accident on Interstate 85 northbound in Orange County killed a 30-year-old mother, 30, authorities said.
Graham’s Shadeshia Brooks was driving toward Durham on I-85 when she lost control of her Ford van near the Interstate 40 division near Hillsborough shortly after 1:30 p.m., said the authorities.
The van ran down the right side of the road, hit a railing and overturned. Brooks, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck and killed, authorities said.
Speed was not a factor in the crash, authorities said, but they are still trying to determine if road conditions played a role.
The northbound I-85 was closed for a couple of hours while authorities investigated the crash, but the road had reopened at 4 p.m.
