Chicago police officers discovered seven children inside an empty apartment on Friday afternoon when they were called to a welfare checkpoint in a building in Humboldt Park, authorities said.

At approximately 3:50 p.m., at Block 700 in North Trumbull, officers arrived at the scene and contacted a witness who alerted someone who was inside an apartment unit on the first floor. which would otherwise be vacant.

Officers found seven children: a 14-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, an old woman and a 23-year-old baby. months.

All children were taken to AMITA Health Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and were said to be in good condition, according to police.

On Friday evening, detectives questioned a 31-year-old woman.
