Pere Rafael Pierluisi is sworn in as the new governor of PR

The new governor of the Associated Free State of Puerto Rico, Pedro Rafael Pierluisi Urrutia, was already sworn in, in a ceremony in which access to the press was not allowed.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Puerto Rican Capitol, was only allowed to be covered from the outside.

“It is with great honor and humility that I take on the responsibility of being the Governor of Puerto Rico. I swore to defend you and give everything for you. I will do so. Puerto Rico is yours,” Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia told take oath.

The Dominican president, Luis Abinader, was one of the leaders invited to the event. Abinader left for the island at 8:30 a.m. and arrived a few minutes before 9:20 p.m.

He left accompanied by the administrative minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Pallissa and the chancellor Roberto Álvarez.

The president is scheduled to leave the island back in the country near noon.
