“Soul” is more of an adult animated film

On Friday, December 25, the film “Soul” was released, exclusively for Disney + users, which although it is an animated film, for its content and depth is more of a film of reflection and introspection for adults.

Pixar, as a film studio, has presented the public with pieces of great value, since “Toy Story” in 1995, one of the most important and beloved films by the audience, which led them to produce a fourth installment of ‘this saga in 2019. With the emotional stamp that an animated film requires, especially for those of us who grew up with dolls.

Sometimes with somewhat irreverent productions, like the story of “Brave,” a girl who doesn’t fit into the Disney princess mold because she doesn’t want to get married or comb her hair, or “Coco,” a movie that talks about the loss of a loved one, the latter able to move anyone.

But with “Soul” (or Soul in Spanish) Pixar went further. First to use existentialist arguments, which delve into an analysis of human existence: What am I doing with my life? Did I make the best decisions? I’m missing something, but how do you know what it is? Doubts that strike us all at some point in life.

This magnificent story centers on Joe Gardner, a man passionate about jazz and the journey he takes through the moments that marked his life. A musician who has lost his passion for being carried out of his body and has to find his way back with the help of a childish soul learning about himself, quotes the synopsis of the tape.

On his way he meets 22, a soul who refuses to live on Earth, but Gardner shows him some of the wonders of life and ends up learning a lot from her. There are other characters like Joe’s mother, who pressures her son to choose a new job.

Set in New York City and with African American residents. This is also a cultural and musical film, and above all funny. Its director Pete Docter, has been a key figure for Pixar, in 2001 he made his directorial debut with “Monsters, Inc.” and, in 2009, he directed “Up,” another moving film, and more recently “Inside Out,” an emotionally-focused film that won him the Oscar for Best Picture. of animation in 2015.

A fundamental pillar of “Soul” is the jazz music, piano and saxophone that transport us to these clubs where the great musicians of history such as Louis Armstrong or Giuseppi Logan emerge, for example. For the film, Jon Batiste wrote some original songs.

Another essential point is the quality of the details. In a scene while Joe plays the piano real, perfect hands can be seen, with impeccable definition.

Pixar films never go unnoticed and the (always loyal) audience eagerly awaits their new releases. This is the first in the history of the studio, which did not premiere in theaters, but in streaming, after postponing its release which was scheduled for June 19, 2020. It is, for many, the best film of the year 2020, a film you will not only want to see more than once. The feature film leaves us with an open ending and several reflections. You are born to do something, but how do you know if you chose the right one?
