A man is expected to face charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, Gatineau police spokeswoman Mariane Leduc said Sunday.
A woman was also arrested for refusing to identify herself, but was released as soon as she complied, Leduc said. Police said the woman may be charged.
Two officers responded to a house in Gatineau Thursday night around 11:30 p.m. after receiving a complaint about a party, Leduc said.
He said two women answered the door and refused to cooperate with officers. They did not present their IDs when officers asked them, which is a crime, Leduc said.
A video made by someone else in the house was posted on Twitter on Friday and shows officers in a confrontation with a man at the door. Screams can be heard in the background.
You can see another man who was inside the house trying to stop the man so that they would not take him outside.
Later in the video, officers are seen physically detaining the man outside the house while security officers arrive and continue talking to some women inside the house.
CNN news partner CBC reported Saturday that the video was posted by Mathieu Tessier, the man who was arrested. Tessier told CBC he believed police used excessive force. He denies assaulting an agent.
Tessier acknowledged to CBC that they risked holding a holiday meeting, but believed that if the authorities were called, they would only have received a warning and a polite request to break the party. “The police can’t do what they did to us. They treat us like animals, like criminals,” Tessier said.
Leduc said six adults received a fine of at least $ 1,000 (C $ 1,546) for violating a public health law.
He said the man who was arrested allegedly “charged” against officers and dragged one of the officers inside the house.
No one was injured in the altercation and everyone was released at the scene after calming down, Leduc said.
