The crazy Manhattan defendant who threw a violent rape over the weekend asked if he could talk to his mother after being ordered without bail on Monday.
“Can I contact my mother?” Asked suspect Bryan Thompson, who allegedly injured ten people and attacked two vehicles in a one-hour crime period, at the end of the Manhattan lawsuit.
Thompson’s attorney, Evan Rock, responded that he would establish something between the couple.
Thompson, 43, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, is accused of accidentally hitting a series of straphangers, walking tourists, drivers and other innocent New Yorkers carefree with a wooden club between 6:30 p.m. 19:30 on Saturday from TriBeCa to Chelsea.
“Within about an hour, the defendant used part of a tree trunk and another hardwood object to commit a series of crimes,” Judge Michael Frishman told Judge Michael Frishman. deputy district attorney during the live hearing, in which Thompson appeared on video from a prison ward.
“In one of the incidents, the defendant hit the victim, an Uber driver, on the head several times to steal her car,” Carro said, asking for a $ 200,000 cash bail or a $ 600,000 bail. dollars for Thompson.
“The defendant also used the wooden object to hit three people while [they were] waiting on a subway platform “and an MTA worker after the suspect climbed the stairs of Canal Street station, the ADA said.
Suddenly, Thompson intervened: “Everything is wrong!
“I was going home!” He stated. “I was trying to get on the train, but the MTA guy …”
The judge asked the suspect to shut up, prompting Thompson to respond, “Yes, sir.”
Thompson, who also asked him to close his prison door to avoid noise, said he could not do so because of his shackles.
“I have some debris in my nose that I’m trying to remove,” he added. “The devil bothers me.”
Thompson’s attorney asked the judge to order a psychological examination for his client.
When the judge asked him why, Rock replied, “My conversations with my client clearly showed that I had a break with reality, Judge.
“Their conversations … the client’s appearance, things of that nature,” the lawyer said.
The judge ordered the examination, though it goes beyond what prosecutors demanded in terms of bail and Thompson’s pretrial detention.
In defending the high bail, the ADA noted that during Thompson’s alleged strike, “he stole the car from another driver and then drove through the city for a period of time.
“When he was finally arrested, the police asked the accused to withdraw. He refused.
“Ultimately, he crashed into a police vehicle” and continued to resist arrest, Carro said.
He said that although Thompson “has no criminal record … given the defendant’s behavior, he already demonstrates that he does not obey orders or guidelines.”
The judge ordered Thompson’s arrest at least until his next court date, Jan. 19.
The suspect faces four second-degree assault offenses, two first-degree burglary offenses and two third-degree misdemeanor offenses.
Law enforcement sources said Thompson has a sealed arrest in New York City. It is not clear what it is for.
According to records, he was also charged in 2007 in Camden County, New Jersey, with bad controls and pleaded guilty and was released on parole a year later.
