Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day hopes QB Justin Fields can play the CFP title

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Monday he expects quarterback Justin Fields to play the national game against Alabama next Monday night.

Fields had a hit on his side late in the first half against Clemson in the college football playoff semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, but stayed in the game. Fields then said he had an injection so he could continue playing, but that he was in pain every time he shot. He said he had no diagnosis of the exact nature of the injury.

In a Zoom call Monday, Day would not reveal details of the injury, but said Ohio State would practice as it normally does and that Fields is expected to play in Miami Monday night.

“Justin is such a competitive guy that he wouldn’t leave the field,” Day said. “That’s the way he’s connected. It was a pretty amazing performance. The next day, his comment to me was that he felt better waking up in the morning than I expected. We’ll keep working all week and have a great week of get ready and get ready to play Monday night. “

Fields threw a Sugar Bowl record of six touchdown passes in the 49-28 victory over the Tigers and passed 385 yards.
