The secretary of the Department of the Family, Carmen Ana González Magaz, reported today, Monday, that the agency is investigating the death of a child under five in Ponce.
According to preliminary information, the girl complained of pain in her limbs and died yesterday within hours of expressing herself that way.

“As part of the research protocol, they went to a hospital, visited the minor’s residence and interviewed collaterals. The rigorous interviews were conducted with relatives and neighbors,” said González Magaz in written statements.
According to the official, no signs of violence were found in the home and the minor also showed no signs of abuse. Similarly, the family does not have prior referrals to the agency.
“Family Department staff continues with the social investigation to chart the corresponding action plan in this unfortunate case,” the Secretary added.
“We stand in solidarity with this family and with all families who are going through a similar situation. As a Department we continue our commitment to the welfare of every child on the island,” he concluded.
