Chargers ask to interview Jason Garrett in search of coach

Jason Garrett returns to the NFL coaching carousel.

The Chargers, who fired coach Anthony Lynn on Monday, have requested an interview with the Giants offensive coordinator for his vacancy. according to the NFL Network.

Garrett, 54, spent 10 seasons as the Cowboys ’head coach before returning him after last season. He went 85-67, but only made three appearances in the playoffs before joining Joe Judge’s squad this season. Garrett has experience mentoring young quarterbacks like Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones. The Chargers have one of the NFL’s top young pointers to Justin Herbert.

The fact that Garrett was leaving to take over as head coach could make one of the Giants ’toughest decisions in the offseason. It is speculated that the team could move on from Garrett after leading an offensive that ranked second to last place in the NFL in total yards and points scored ahead of the Jets. Nor did it help Jones make a leap forward in his second season.

The Jets have requested an interview with Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
