The mayor of Broward says the health department will vaccinate about 20,000 residents a week in 8 locations

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Broward County Mayor Steve Geller held a press conference Tuesday morning at the Broward Governmental Center to discuss COVID-19 vaccination efforts from the county health department and the problems that have occurred with your website.

Currently, the Broward County Department of Health has three open locations where people over the age of 65 or older can receive the vaccine.

The sites are only open to those who book an appointment online through browardcovidvaccine.com, however, the website has experienced problems since it was launched last week, which left many people frustrated.

Geller said the website’s crash was due to the high volume of people who have been trying to make an appointment and said there will be more appointments as more vaccination sites open.

According to the mayor, the health department plans to open eight places and will be able to vaccinate about 20,000 people a week, possibly more.

“As each new Department of Health location opens, they will reopen the Broward County website to make new reservations for the first three weeks at that location,” Geller said. “In addition, the Florida Department of Health in Broward will reopen the website as they are vaccinated each week, so they will always be about three weeks ahead.”

The following is a list of vaccination sites currently offered by the Department of Health in Broward County:

>Trade wind park, 3600 West Sample Road, Coconut Creek.

>Vista View Park, Southwest 142nd Avenue, Davie.

>Markham Park, 160001 West State Road 84, Sunrise.

According to Geller, the Florida Department of Emergency Management has established vaccine “pods” in the following three major condominium communities:

  • Century Village in Deerfield Beach
  • Kings Point to Tamarac
  • Village of Wynmoor to Coconut Creek

Hundreds of people waited in line on Monday at the Tamarac location and some returned early on Tuesday.

The team working at Kings Point told Local 10 News that things were running smoothly on Tuesday.

“They will go through the process where they register. We will check for symptoms, make sure there are no symptoms to prevent them from getting vaccinated today, then do a basic health check, ”said Christopher Todd, a Florida Department of Health representative.

Todd said those administering the vaccine will have the patient sit for 15 to 30 minutes after receiving the vaccine to make sure they do not experience any allergic reactions.

Geller said there are a limited number of vaccines available at each of the condominium locations and that they are only available to residents. Each community establishes its own procedures for administering vaccines and how to register for one.

The mayor said the Broward County Department of Health has already administered vaccines to all nursing homes in the area and will begin administering the second doses to residents starting Tuesday. Residents of residences who have missed the first dose may also receive the first dose on Tuesday.

CVS and Walgreens will administer the vaccines at the assisted living facilities.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is scheduled to make an update on the Miami-Dade vaccination plan at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
