As national terrorists stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday in a coup attempt, the world was glued to the screens watching the drama unfold. This includes the world of sports, as past and present athletes took into account what was going on.
Basketball legend Bill Russell questioned the security response, wondering how different things might look like if the insurgents had been black, while noting the presence of a Confederate flag at the Capitol.
Rex Chapman, another former NBA player and now prolific tweeter, was also amazed that Capitol Police refrained from violently dispersing people as they did with so many Black Lives Matter protests this past summer.

Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman tracked down Chapman’s tweet and reported the incident on what it was:
Stroman had more to say, calling back to the National Guard’s summer protests and responses.
Ditto for Ravens receiver Dez Bryant, who knew that if there was a different racial composition from the group storming the Capitol, there would have been a lot of people killing.
Delino DeShields Jr., the free camper, had the same kind of amazed reaction as the rest of us, just amazed to see this happen.
Like his sister, the Chicago Sky Guard, Diamond DeShields.
Niners defensive back Richard Sherman has this to say about these national terrorists:
And the safety of the Broncos, Justin Simmons made this cunning observation:
While Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy wondered exactly how to classify the criminals who break into the Capitol …
… Libertarian guard Layshia Clarendon knew exactly what they were doing.
Of course, as with so many social and sports issues lately, the WNBA was ahead of the curve.
Tim Tebow?
Not so much.
