UPS driver fired after racist dispute on family porch: report

A UPS driver who was caught in a video making a racist dispute while delivering a package to a Latino family in Milwaukee has been fired.

Hugo Aviles, a police officer, was asleep when he received a notification from his security camera showing the UPS driver throwing racist statements on his porch on Dec. 17, the Washington Post reported.

“Now you don’t have anything because you’re a stupid person who can’t read, write and speak English,” the driver said in the recording.

Shirley Aviles, 45, the mother of the police officer, said she had no doubt the UPS driver was referring to her 23-year-old son.

“He’s never met my son,” the mother told the Washington Post. “It is based solely on the Latin surname. He meant it. He returned it. It was malicious. “

On Tuesday, UPS announced it had fired the driver. The company did not disclose the identity of the driver.

His dismissal came after Milwaukee activists held a press conference demanding the company take action.

“There is no place in any community for racism, bigotry or hatred,” a UPS spokesman told NBC News. “This is very serious and we quickly took action, finishing the driver’s job.”
